Heated towel rails have become a standard feature in many NZ bathroom renovations, particularly in newer homes and upgraded ensuites. While they are often treated as a decorative add-on, their real value lies in moisture control, towel hygiene, and daily comfort — provided they are specified and installed correctly.

The first practical consideration is output, not size. Many towel rails look substantial but operate at very low wattage. In NZ conditions, a rail that is underpowered may feel warm to the touch but fail to dry towels effectively, especially during winter or in poorly ventilated bathrooms. For most family bathrooms, output needs to be sufficient to both warm and dry, not just take the chill off.
